St. Paul's magnificent Schantz pipe organ awakens for an evening of thrilling music that will send delightful shivers down your spine and stir the soul. Discover how a pipe organ works, why there are so many keyboards, and— what’s with all the buttons? Experience the power and artistry of one of the region's largest instruments in an unforgettable evening of music and discovery.

Suggested donation: $25/families , $10/individuals

Friends of Music at St. Paul’s mission is to support our magnificent instruments and to promote excellence in liturgical and concert music at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church for the greater Washington, DC community.

Georgetown Chorale

Carols and Lullabies

Saturday, December 5 at 5pm

Find an oasis of peace amid the hurry-scurry holiday season.  The Georgetown Chorale presents carols and lullabies from the American Southwest in Susa’s radiant scoring for choir, marimba, guitar, and harp.  Eric Whitacre’s Seal Lullaby and Sarah Quartel’s Birds’ Lullaby remind us of humankind’s duty of environmental stewardship.  The program will also feature world premiere performances of A Choral Benediction (Gary Davison) and selections from Carols of the Earth (Amy Broadbent).

Timeless

Sunday, March 6 at 5pm

An evening with Cantate Chamber Singers resonates with the timeless echoes of ancient traditions. Trevor Weston’s Messe Ancienne transports the sonority of medieval chant into the modern day with thrilling harmonies, while his Ma’at Musings interpret Egyptian pyramid texts with the help of atmospheric percussion. I Hate and I Love by Dominick Argento explores the perennial close connections between hate and love apparent even in early Roman writings.

Throughout the year, St. Paul’s welcomes a variety of musical groups to sing in the sanctuary. These groups have included the Washington Bach Consort, Thomas Circle Singers, Polyhymnia Chamber Chorus, Georgetown Chorale, Washington-Douglas Chorale, Cantate, and the Children’s Chorus of Washington.

The Sanctuary Nave is adorned with beautiful stained glass works, an acoustically resplendent venue to host your organizations concerts or events. The Sanctuary instruments include the Great and Chancel Organs (Schantz 1985/1993) and a Steinway Concert Grand.
